What is STEAM?
STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths — but at Playtivity, it’s much more than subjects… it’s an exciting way of learning through play, creativity and real-world challenges.
Children aged 5–11 take part in hands-on activities such as building, experimenting, designing, problem-solving, crafting and inventing. One day children might be creating marble runs, another day designing and testing bridges, launching mini-rockets, mixing slime, coding simple games and robots, painting bold artwork, designing models, experimenting with materials, creating sculptures, or building imaginative creations from recycled materials...the list goes on! And all while having so much fun they don’t even realise how much they’re learning.
STEAM helps children to:
-
Build confidence and independence
-
Develop creativity and imagination
-
Strengthen problem-solving and resilience
-
Improve teamwork and communication
-
Develop a genuine love of learning
Originally developed to equip children with skills for the future, STEAM is now used worldwide because it supports not only academic development, but also social and emotional growth.
At our Saturday Clubs and Holiday Clubs, children learn by doing, not by sitting still. Sessions are active, engaging and packed with discovery.
Our approach to screen time
We believe children learn best through real-world experiences, not through extended time in front of a screen. Technology is used only when it adds value to an activity — for example, researching ideas, trying simple coding, or documenting their creations — but screens are never the focus.
The aim is always to get children making, building, exploring, collaborating and using their imagination. Parents can feel confident that their child is enjoying meaningful, hands-on experiences rather than passive screen time.
